Had Thong Lang or "Golden Deserted Beach." Koh Phangan's most amazing beach comes by this name with good reason: the area has very few inhabitants. You will see only a smattering of huts that have sprung up infrequently on the golden sands near Haad Thong Lang. If you're lucky enough to meet the irregular residents. Have no fear, however, because if you do encounter locals, they are extremely friendly and enjoy socializing with those that come to Koh Phangan.
It has a shallow coral bay with a coral reef that creates a beautiful lagoon in high tidal seasons, over the reef there is good snorkelling, but be careful not to damage the corals if you are going to cross the reef at low tide. It's a great beach for a day visit if you're looking for a bit of true desert island isolation.
As mentioned before, Haad Thong Lang is deserted, but it can be reached either by hiring a longtail boat from the nearby fishing village of Chaloklum, or by bike / taxi and a short walk. To access the beach on land, take the main (concrete) road from Mae Had to Chaloklum, about 300 metres up the road there is a left turn onto a dirt road with a small sign directing you to the beach. The dirt road is about 400 metes long and is fairly rough, especially during monsoon, but it can be negotiated on a moped if you're used to one; stop at the top of the bay and walk down to the beach. Due to its Northerly location, neither sunset nor sunrise can be seen from this beach.
Haad Thong Lang is located in a shallow sea basin and therefore has a tremendous growth of coral reefs that can be explored by either snorkeling or scuba diving. However, you should be sensitive to the environment around Haad Thong Lang and ensure that your activities do not damage the natural splendor of these underwater wonders. Because of the shallow nature of the sea shelf, you cannot swim on the beachside of the coral reef between the months of November to April, so it's best to go between the months of December and March at Haad Thong Lang. If you intend to paddle about during the remaining months, schedule your swims to coincide with the high tides at Haad Thong Lang. Whether you wish to relax upon the golden sand and soak up the tropical sun while reading your favorite book or you want to body surf amongst the waves, Haad Thong Lang has what you desire. You may also want to explore around the edges of the verdant jungles that surround Haad Thong Lang.
So when you are experiencing your ultimate tropical holiday in Koh Phangan, make Had Thong Lang, Koh Phangan's most amazing beach, one of your preferred stops!
